DEPARTMENT OF BLOOD TRANSFUSION & IMMUNOHEMATOLOGY

The Department is providing therapeutic services to ailing patients to almost all the regions of the State. This Department has been running routine and specialized investigations.

1). Donor reception, Selection & Collection.
This area provides services to process hundred percent safe blood by screening the donors for any history of transmissible diseases. Proper medical examination is being carried out for all donors. Professional donors are being rejected on spot. Department is now using SAGM Triple Bags for providing better quality blood and hundred percent components facilities to the patients being treated by various super-specialties available only in this institute. Besides the Department also provides quality components to other big hospitals of the valley.

2). Cross Match Area
The Department is issuing blood only after proper cross matching to minimize the risk of transfusion reaction. Proper quality control is being maintained at all the stages from reception to dispensing of blood and its components.

3). Virology & Immuno-haematology section.
The Department is doing regular screening of blood and components for HbsAG, HIV, HCV, VDRL, Malaria and other irregular antibodies. The Department is also taking care of haemophillia about 275 cases are registered with this department so fare who are being provided factor VIII and other coagulation factor free of cost and even without donors. The Department is also issuing palatelet conc. And PRP free of cost to the patients regularly who are on Chemotherapy and low platelet count. About 30 units of such components are being issued daily. The Department is also providing protein conc. To various long time ailing patients.

The Department is meeting the requirement for various super-specialties who need massive transfusions like CVTS, Neurosurgeries, Hepatic surgeries, Accident & Emergencies etc. and is ready at any time to meet any type of disaster. Children upto the age of seven years are being provided free transfusion facilities any time.
